In line with our Core Values, our aim is to show transparency in our dealings with salaries and hourly rates. Contract Scotland uses salary banding, which have been derived from placements and offers of permanent jobs to candidates co-ordinated through Contract Scotland.

The sample was taken from January 2008 to December 2009 which has been a particularly low point in the construction sector. Whilst excellent conditions can still attract strong salaries, all positions with 1 or 2 exceptions have seen salaries decline to up to 10%. We can issue more details on each discipline by clicking here which puts each salary into context i.e. average Site Engineer salary for Graduate in Glasgow working with national Civil Engineering Contractor is £25k plus car and pension.

Showing these average salaries is a guide to the market and whilst there are always exceptions, these give an understanding to those seeking employment or Clients knowing where to pitch job offers.

Over the past year there have been some winners notably in Estimating, Planning and Business Development and lower increments / salary cuts in Architecture, Assistant QS level and CAD Technicians.

In 2010 we feel some salaries will be lower again and so far have seen a 10% decline for some Site Managers, QS’s and Site Engineers in light of a decreased workload and increased competition.
