And what better way to celebrate than with cake and prosecco overlooking the Edinburgh City Skyline featuring the Castle (of course!)? My colleague Steven Murray and I had a fantastic night last night at the Young People in Construction (YPiC) event held at the stunning Quartermile One Building 6th Floor, sponsored by Savills and Thomson Gray.
YPiC events are always an excellent opportunity for young professionals to network and mingle, giving us the opportunity to build on our network. We all participated in a fun icebreaker of ムpass the parcel’ in true birthday party style. There was a good mix of guests in attendance, from Architects to Land Buyers, Quantity Surveyors and Engineers. There was a common theme of discussion around the skill shortage across the industry, in particular, a reference to the Commercial and Technical sector and ways we can help bridge this gap. It was encouraging to see so many Trainee and Graduate Professionals there, which shows how organisations are appreciating the value of investing in new talent opposed to searching for established individuals who are in such short supply.
It was a relaxed atmosphere and it was nice to see so many young people who are truly passionate about their industry. It was clear by looking around the room, how booming the Construction Industry is across the Central Belt – especially in the East of Scotland with numerous Residential and Commercial projects due to start next year in and around Edinburgh.
YPiC, who were originally founded by 3DReid, Maclay Murray & Spens LLP and bam, were proud to announce their sponsors (Savills and Thomson Gray) have allowed them to carry on for another year. We will be keeping an eye out for the next event and roll on Birthday number 2!
