John-Paul Toner
John-Paul joined Contract Scotland as a raw graduate back in 2003. His first role saw him supplying freelance site engineers to clients across the construction industry and, having successfully grown this section, he went on to repeat the feat across multiple other temporary sections before taking on a role managing the temporary division of the business. Following the continued growth of the company, John-Paul was appointed as a Director and became a minority shareholder in 2009, assuming responsibility for the growth and development of our recruitment team and the development of our recruitment offering.
In 2021, after a number of years developing and implementing a succession plan, John-Paul led a successful management buyout (MBO) of the company from its founding Director Colin Woodward along with Julie Fleming and Alan Shave, and is now our majority shareholder.
When not acquiring businesses in the middle of a global health crisis, John-Paul moonlights as a taxi driver for his three children. All of whom now have a better social life than he does.

Julie Fleming
Julie started with Contract Scotland as a fresh graduate in August 2007! That is a whole lot of knowledge in construction recruitment! As a Recruitment Consultant, Julie spent most of her time in looking after freelance recruitment across various sectors placing people in over 1500 contracts during her time as a Consultant. She will always love the fast paced nature of temporary job roles. Julie now manages our Building, Business Support Services and Executive Search recruitment divisions as well as working alongside the board in the day to day operations at Contract Scotland.

Alan Shave
Alan joined the business in 2006 as a Graduate Recruitment Consultant and has specialised in several sectors since, including engineering consultancy, building, housing & property and civil engineering, as well as helping to set up our international recruitment network.
In 2021, he was part of an exciting management buy-out which saw him ‘team up’ with John-Paul Toner and Julie Fleming to take on the ownership of Contract Scotland and lead us into the next stage of our growth.
Alan also heads up our executive search division – CS Executive – and handles many tailored & confidential searches across the industry.
Outside of work he has a rather ‘niche’ obsession with Wolverhampton Wanderers and the Seattle Seahawks, so you’ll either find him watching them or chasing after his Labrador!

Jamie Porter
Jamie’s been part of Contract Scotland since 2007 and in that time he’s enjoyed working in a variety of sections. Initially joining the recruitment team as a Resourcer, he stepped up to become a Consultant looking after the public sector and design consultancy sections. Jamie established the Energy division and also recruited for Civil Engineering Contractors before taking over responsibility for permanent recruitment for Design Consultancies. Having covered such variety, he’s able to offer wide-ranging support and advice to our customers while providing a more holistic view on industry trends. He takes genuine pride in the fact that we offer a service based on sound ethics and goes home at night knowing that he’s made a positive contribution to our customers and the wider industry. Jamie was promoted to the post of Head of Engineering, Property & Cost Consultancies in 2019 and subsequently moved to head up the Construction & Building Division in 2022. Rachel has enjoyed learning all about the Scottish Construction Industry and finds the world of Recruitment both challenging and rewarding. She has had the opportunity to visit construction sites and meet with some of our clients and candidates. Since joining in 2019, Julie has continued to develop her team, bringing on a new Consultant to manage the demands and growth of the business. This is an exciting time for the Business Support Services team, and Julie is looking forward to continued success and growth.
Out of work, Julie enjoys lots of socialising with friends and family as well as drinking wine and going to gigs and musicals.

Nicole Verden-Glenn
Nicole, joining Contract Scotland in 2016 as a Recruitment Resourcer, has assisted/contributed towards making key placements across Civil Engineering, Business Support Services, M&E Building Services, Construction & Fit-Out and Housing & Property. Specialising in temporary & permanent recruitment and following Nicole’s continued success within the business, she has progressed her career to Senior Consultant and is currently overseeing Business Support Services requirements. Nicole likes achieving and seeing results for both her clients and candidates and thrives through offering the best possible service. Nicole is always chasing the next challenge and is keen to further her knowledge and capabilities, as well as expanding her market share.

Jade Mitchell
In 2019, Jade joined Contract Scotland and started working within our Housing Division as a recruitment consultant. New to the world of recruitment, she was keen to build on the strong relationships of existing clients and candidates, as well as working to forge new relationships within the sector. Jade made a strong start, successfully providing solutions to our clients in one of our busiest sections. Unfortunately, due to the unforeseen circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, she briefly took a step away from Contract Scotland in 2020 before making her return in January 2021. She is now looking forward to the new challenge of taking on permanent recruitment within our Engineering Consultancies section, with a focus on recruiting Civil/Structural Design Engineers and Technicians across Scotland.

Rachael McCallum
Rachael joined Contract Scotland in April 2022 as a Resourcer. She was looking for a new role that was both, challenging and rewarding. Rachael enjoys building new relationships and achieving positive outcomes while working with candidates and clients across the Business Support Division.

Gemma Gardiner
Gemma graduated in 2021 with a BA with Honours in Law & HRM. After working for a period in the legal sector, she decided to move into recruitment as she was looking for a more challenging and fast-paced role.
She’s enjoying her time at Contract Scotland and feels like she has now found her feet within the build division dealing with temporary recruitment.
She enjoys finding creative solutions for our clients’ staffing needs and is relishing both the challenging and rewarding aspects of her role. She has also had the opportunity to go out on site visits and meet some of our temporary workers and clients and looks forward to building long-term relationships in the sector.

Kirsten Whitfield
Kirsten started her career in recruitment with Contract Scotland in 2018, when she joined the Civil Engineering team as a Recruitment Consultant to assist with Tier 1 build and civil contractors recruit for Site Engineers. Fast forward to 2022, Kirsten has shown a great work ethic, where she was recently promoted to Senior Recruitment Consultant. She now recruits all white-collar staff for small-medium sized civil contractors across Scotland.
Kirsten’s favourite part of the job is getting out and about to meet our temporary workers and clients, gaining as much on-site experience as possible. Kirsten has also enjoyed the challenge of training new Consultants and Resources, passing on her specialist people skills and industry knowledge to strengthen the team around her.
Fun fact about Kirsten, she comes from a performing arts background and spent many years working, auditioning and living in London – so a karaoke night is never off the cards! Outside of work, as much as Kirsten loves an active lifestyle at the gym and eating her five a day, she’s no stranger to a glass of red wine on a Saturday night!

Kirstin Marshall
Kirstin started her career in recruitment when she joined Contract Scotland in March of 2021, initially recruiting site engineers for large, tier 1 civil engineering contractors. However, after a short year of training and skill development from her team, Kirstin is now a confident Recruitment Consultant for all white-collar staff for her large contractors throughout Scotland.
Kirstin’s people skills and ambitious nature brought her from the marketing world into recruitment. She has taken the challenge head-on, resulting in positive outcomes for clients and candidates. Eager to learn from her colleagues, Kirstin is excited to see where the rest of her journey at Contract Scotland will take her.
Outside of the office, as much as she tries to keep active and enjoys being outdoors, Kirstin is a big foodie, so a usual Saturday night for her is spent wining and dining!

Morghan Bell-Kane

Focusing on freelance/temporary recruitment for large, tier 1 contractors within the civil engineering sector, she’s thrown herself into learning her recruitment craft and the different aspects of the construction industry.

Louise Knock
Louise joined the team in September 2021 to work as a Resourcer within the busy permanent civil engineering team. Having previously worked in marketing within the agricultural sector, she finds this role very different, challenging, but exciting. She really enjoys the fast-paced recruitment environment, assisting her team and building long term relations with her candidates and clients to achieve positive outcomes.

Adam Rahma
Adam joined Contract Scotland back in October 2021 after spending over 7 years working within the fitness industry. Adam felt that it was time for a new challenge and to get out of his comfort zone, which he has undoubtedly achieved.
Adam feels that his experience in forming customer relationships and helping people transform their lives both mentally and physically will stand him in good stead for a rewarding career within recruitment, helping people get the job they’ve always wanted.
He is working within our housebuilding team beside Nicola and Marie, and he is working on permanent vacancies predominantly at Site and Assistant Site Manager level. He has started to visit sites and meet clients face to face and is enjoying the variety the new role brings.

Stephen McNaughton
Stephen joined Contract Scotland in 2023 as Head of Engineering, Property & Cost Consultancies. Stephen leads on developing and growing this division with the support of a great team, and working with industry-leading clients.
Prior to this, Stephen has over 18 years of recruitment industry experience, including his own business where he developed an outstanding client base including blue-chip organisations and SMEs across the UK. He brings a wealth of skills and experience to our team, and has a special interest in developing innovative solutions around client needs, and the changing workplace environment.
Away from work Stephen can be found on the tennis court at his local gym beating his two children in friendly competition. He can also be spotted walking his Maltese dog around the local area before enjoying a meal out with friends.

Marie Savage
Having originally joined the Admin team in June 2017, Marie moved over to the Housing & Property division as a Resourcer in the Summer of 2019, before joining the Engineering, Property and Cost Consultancies team in February 2023.

Outside of work, Marie enjoys spending time with her husband, son & two dogs. She is a keen baker, always bringing in sweet treats for the office to try!

Anne Fotheringham
Joined in 1997, so yes one of the oldies. Anne has seen it all, the good and the bad bits! She looks after the finances of the company and makes sure that the office is running so everyone can function to service all our customers; someone needs to make sure that the electricity bill gets paid! As a proud shareholder of the company, Anne has expertly navigated PSL’s, works tirelessly to ensure we don’t touch our overdraft (no reliance on banks here) and knows the business inside out.

Carolyn McNaughton
Carolyn joined the company in February 2017, coming from a Finance role which primarily incorporated Purchase, Sales and Nominal Ledger. Joining the finance team as a credit controller, Carolyn is thoroughly enjoying her role. Carolyn is establishing new Partnerships whilst reprising and maintaining previous relationships within the Construction Industry and loves working within such a forward thinking and innovative team.

Dorothy Hope
Another long term member of staff who has been with us since 2003. Dot started out as a Payroll / Secretarial and Credit Control Assistant (we were much smaller back then). Over the years she has worked her way up to become Senior Credit Controller which she loves with a passion. Dot believes her telephone manner, negotiation skills and vast client knowledge, has helped develop and maintain customer relationships. She also really enjoys the variety of personal contact and communication with our customers on a daily basis. When it comes to non-payment of invoices, however, there is not a single excuse that she hasn’t heard before!! The dog ate my homework kind of stuff, so it brings an enormous amount of satisfaction when a payment of a long overdue invoice comes in!

Laura Armitage
Laura joined in August 2013 and knows her way around the office, because she organised most of it! Chieftain of the admin team, she is also the head IT geek and is often found under someone else’s desk. Along with the rest of the admin clan, she ensures that every registration takes place and CV we send out looks just right. No room for error here! If there’s a broken blind, a major computer failure or a leaky tap to be fixed, she’s your girl!

Nicola Monro
Nicola joined the construction recruitment market in 2003, working with a large international plc. Her proven track record has spanned a number of specialisms, from trades & labour, to commercial roles to senior appointment.
After joining a boutique agency in 2013, to help grow the business, Nicola was incremental in developing the strategies that grew the business to become a key player in the market.
Nicola is delighted to be working with the Contract Scotland team, who she has considered the benchmark in the Scottish construction recruitment market. She looks forward to growing the housebuilding division into the “go to” agency of choice in this sector. She is keen to ensure the level of service her network expects is consistently met.
In her spare time, Nicola enjoys working with small start ups and SME’s as a business coach. She also enjoys keeping fit and spending time with/cleaning up after her two sons!

Elaine Dodds
Joining the team in November 2022, Elaine has worked with one of Scotland’s most established luxury developers. With such extensive experience within the industry, Elaine is fully aware of the importance of excellent customer service and what is needed in an individual to achieve high sales and a good customer experience. With this awareness, Elaine is looking forward to sourcing similar individuals to our Housing Clients.
In her spare time Elaine loves to travel and spend time with her nieces and nephews.
