Australia Temporary Skills Shortage Visa

The Temporary Skill Shortage Visa (Subclass 482) offers skilled professionals the opportunity to be sponsored by Australian employers addressing local skill shortages.  The TSS Visa (Subclass 482) serves to alleviate the shortage of skilled workers for Australian employers encountering difficulties in sourcing qualified personnel among Australian citizens.

To qualify, nominations must align with the ‘Migration Skilled Occupation List’ and be sponsored by an approved organisation, granting a stay in Australia for a duration of two to four years.  The visa encompasses a short-term stream, a medium-term stream, and a labour agreement stream, with no age restrictions.

Employer eligibility for sponsorship requires adherence to specific criteria:

Skilled Occupation List: The nominated occupation must be on the Skilled Occupations List.

Labour Market Testing: Employers must attempt non-discriminatory recruitment of qualified local candidates before sponsoring.

Salary Levels: Pay an Australian market salary, with specific remuneration thresholds for applications lodged until 30 June 2023 and on or after 1 July 2023.

The Short-Term TSS allows for visas up to two years, while the Medium-Term TSS permits up to four years with eligibility for permanent residency.  The Labor Agreement Stream caters to skilled workers under agreements between employers and the Australian Government.

Family members can apply as subsequent entrants, with the ability to live, work, and study in Australia.  Application fees vary based on the stream.

Applicant requirements for Short and Medium-Term TSS include nomination in an eligible occupation, two years of relevant work experience, skills assessments if required, English proficiency, adherence to sponsor employment, and meeting health and character standards.

The application process involves employer nomination, document gathering, online application through ImmiAccount, acknowledgment from the Australian Government, and subsequent communication on visa status.  Processing times vary due to individual circumstances.

Upon visa approval, conditions include meeting Australian laws, with the flexibility to travel outside Australia without extending the visa duration.  Unfortunately, the TSS visa cannot be extended for continued employment, requiring a new visa application and nomination submission.  English language proficiency must be demonstrated through approved tests, with exemptions for certain categories.

Visa conditions, application details, and requirements are subject to periodic updates, and applicants are advised to refer to the official website for the latest information.
