It has been a busy period for freelance commercial staff on civil engineering projects throughout Scotland.
This year Quantity Surveyors, Senior Quantity Surveyors and Commercial Managers are in high demand, making up 10% of all freelance civil engineering positions registered with Contract Scotland.
Freelance commercial staff working through Contract Scotland have been kept in continuous employment throughout most of this year.
The average pay rates range from ﾣ250 per day for a Quantity Surveyor in Central Scotland and up to ﾣ400 per day for more experienced Senior QS/Commercial Management staff.
Out with Central Scotland, pay rates are higher due to the lack of staff and this is particularly noticeable in Aberdeen and Inverness.
This year there has been an increase in the number of people who have made the move to work on a freelance basis based on the financial return, continuity of work and flexibility of choosing projects.
