It’s a difficult and demanding time to be a quantity surveyor, but a new quantity surveyor role has emerged with an independent contractor, who are based in Edinburgh and have the advantage of holding their own trades & labour provision. This family-run firm have a solid pipeline of projects based in the east of Central Scotland.

Working on commercial, residential and refurbishment projects, they are looking to appoint an experienced quantity surveyor, to join their existing commercial team of 3. You will be working on the pre and post contract aspects of surveying management, including managing the client and service delivery on a project basis.

Key Requirements of the Role:
• Forecasting, monitoring and reporting accurately on every project.
• Advising and guiding on all contract and commercial issues.
• Managing subcontractor accounts accurately and effectively.
• Be responsible for the compilation of all weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as required.
• Be aware of new materials and methods of construction which the company may employ, as well as a sound knowledge of latest regulations, codes of practice and NHBC requirements.
• Be responsible for all cost control procedures, including managing and controlling the budget and valuations by always updating the estimated final costs, and having the ability to show absolute cost and value reconciliation.
• Contribute to the conceptual designs/options to ensure the design is kept within the budgeted values.
• Prepare tenders and procure sub-contractors, goods and materials.
• Compile subcontractor recommendations for approval.
• Process Subcontract orders, payments and variations, in line with policy and procedure.
• Evaluate and agree variations and instructions, always aware of budgetary constraints, and ensuring that approval is obtained prior to agreement of variations in excess of the respective allowances.
• Liaise with site personnel and subcontractors in order to maximise productivity.
• Attend all project and team meetings as required, and present the Commercial position to the meeting.
• Implementation of the Company’s weekly production bonus system for directly employed site labour.

In addition to the basic salary, our client offers a car allowance and 10% employer pension scheme.
