RICS Summer Drinks

My colleague Grant Dalziel and I attended last night’s RICS Summer Drinks held at Drygate Brewery – great venue for a networking event; a private area with lots of space for guests to mingle and plenty of good food and drink available too! There was a business card drop for 2 generously donated prizes (sponsored by JLL and PMP – Whisky and Champagne) Joe Madden of PMP did the prize draw (unfortunately I didn’t win!!) and name badges were also sponsored and prepared by Brown & Wallace.

The event was held in conjunction with Glasgow Institute of Architects (GIA) and the Chartered Institute of Highways and Transport (CIHT). The event was well attended – guests came with mixed levels of experience and background in the industry making for some great conversation!! In line with Festival of Architecture 2016, there were GIA Talking Building Maps of Scotland left out to take away – we’ll make sure we do some exploring of these great venues!!

It was a relaxed evening, giving guests an opportunity to talk to their peers and contacts about current projects, what’s happening in the industry and general catch-ups. An interesting discussion point from many of the architects we spoke to was that many practices are working very closely with universities to bring up graduates and give them placements throughout their qualifications, thereafter when they become qualified they are lucky enough to be offered a position having had some experience in the company; something that their counterparts in the engineering and consultancy sectors could look to do more of?

Overall a great night and looking forward to the next one!!
